Grace’s Questions

Book to movie adaption or book to TV series?

Book to TV series, I think. Because usually, my favorite books have so many delicious subplots and little scenes that the movie would inevitably leave out… but a TV series would have more of the time to include those little beloved things.

Would you rather…be in your favorite book or write the book?

Oh my goodness! I love this question! But… I have no idea. Probably be in the book, now that I think about it. Oh yeah. I’d get to interact with all the characters and… *melts thinking about my favorite characters* I’d be able to TALK to them. Kinda wish that was real, lol.

What’s the most you’ve read in one sitting?

*thinks even harder then gives up* I don’t remember. I’m guessing, at the most, 200-ish pages? Especially late at night. *guilty smile* But anyway, I always feel “so dead tired” when I read really late, but it’s always been worth it, because when a book grabs your heart and pulls you in until you absolutely HAVE to finish it before going to bed, reading until “The End” is so. so. so. satisfying.

Favorite bookish merch/swag?

T-shirts, so I can nonverbally broadcast to the world how much I love the book. 😉

Worst. Book. Ever. In your opinion?

Hmm. I know I’ve read books I lowkey despised, but I don’t think I would have finished them, so that means I didn’t keep a file of them in my memory… nothing comes to mind. I’ll keep you posted if I think of anything. XD

Most recent DNF (Did Not Finish)?

Good heavens… I have tons, but I do mean to finish them! Since I have so many, I don’t remember the latest. *thinks more* Okay, this is far from the latest, but I didn’t finish Rebecca by Daphne du Maurier. I might finish it someday, but it was a library book and I needed to go through it slowly. But I don’t love it enough to actually buy it, so… it’s a DNF.

What’s your most unpopular bookish opinion? (Just…don’t say anything bad about Jane Austen, okay? I’m sensitive in that area. XD)

I LOVE JANE AUSTEN AND WOULD NEVER SAY ANYTHING BAD ABOUT HER

This is both unpopular AND pretty common among certain circles, but I’m not interested in reading Harry Potter, because of the type of magic in it. And I’m usually not a big fan of the survival genre, though are some books I LOVE in it, don’t get me wrong. (If you want to know why I usually don’t like it, I go in depth about it here.)

Oh, and, for the most part, I’m okay with and actually like high intensity levels in books (when it comes to heavy content, though it must be clean, of course), and I enjoy a lot of “depressing” movies because they’re often the most emotionally impactful. But it must be done well; cheesy movies featuring heavy topics are just… just no, please no. It has to be real and raw, not cheesy and romanticized.

Have you ever cosplayed as your favorite character(s)?

Kinda but not really, with my cousin. Little Women. (I had to look up what “cosplayed” meant lol.) We just dressed up as them and acted a bit out, but it wasn’t a huge success, hahaha!!!

What’s your favorite book setting (time, world, country, etc.)?

I don’t think I have an absolutely favorite, but I loooooove the vivid world of the Wingfeather Saga, the small-scale village setting of Anne of Green Gables, and the English country setting of Pride and Prejudice. Those are only the settings that come first to mind, though, so be assured there are tons of others I love. 😊 (Oh, also the 20th century Boston setting where the O’Connors live, in the Daughters of Boston series.)

If you could be the main character of any book, which one would it be?

I’d probably choose someone very opposite from my personality so the experience would be even more dramatic. Hmmm… *thinks and comes back later* Maybe Parvin from A Time to Die? I don’t know why I’m choosing her, because she went through extremely traumatizing and painful things, but there was something so inspiring and stirring about that story, so… yeah. Plus, I kinda I wish I was impulsive like her. Another character it would be interesting to be would be (wow, so many bes!) Katie O’Connor from A Hope Undaunted. Because we couldn’t be more different personality-wise. 😂

Lily’s Questions!

What’s one book that you wished you would’ve written instead? (i.e The False Prince, Chronicles of Narnia, Hunger Games, Charlotte’s Web, etc.)

Well, there are a few Middle-Grade books I feel like could have been improved by a more lively and sparkling and colorful writing style – that would have made them appeal to a wider audience. *shrugs* I can’t think of anything right now, but whatever the book is, it would be one that had an overall strong storyline, just lackluster writing.

But if we mean this in a positive light, like oh-my-goodness-this-book-is-so-good-i-wish-i-could-have-written-it, then maybe Lord of the Rings. It’s just so all-around epic.

What type of book character would you be? (i.e best friend, comedic side character, wise mentor, etc.)

Haha this is a fun question!! Maybe the protagonist’s introverted but very optimistic sidekick who gives motivational speeches, and later gets a sequel done about her. But is that even a trope?

Do you prefer humorous stories, more serious stories, or both?

Both!!! And even best is when they’re a perfect blend of both humor and seriousness! A little humor to lighten up otherwise serious stories makes it more digestible and fun. LOVELY.

What’s one book that you’d like to change the ending to?

Great question! There are several books… oh! THE WARDEN AND THE WOLF KING. (The last Wingfeather Saga book.) Actually, you know what, it’s kinda bittersweetly perfect as it is. So never mind. Let’s see… anything else?

I’m literally scrolling through my “read” Goodreads list. Um, maybe Calico Captive? Oh yes, definitely that one! I wanted to see her with Phineas at the end – see a glimpse of what life with him would be like. It was sweet and hope-filled but unsatisfying. Unlike, say, The Witch of Blackbird Pond. It ended sooner than I would have liked, but it was so much more satisfying. 😀

Which author is your favorite and why? (Ooo, see what I did there?)

Mmm-mmm. Ain’t choosing. I mean, almost every month I’m discovering new authors I love, from traditional to indie. But all my favorites plural are my favorites because of their writing style, the themes they tackle, and their characters. (I’ll just mention a few of my favorite authors; S. D. Smith, Andrew Peterson, Elizabeth George Speare, Lucy Maud Montgomery, and Jocelyn Green. And then there’s J. R. R. Tolkien and C. S. Lewis and Julie Lessman and Grace A. Johnson and Vanessa Hall and Kristina Hall and Kaytlin and Rissy and Jaidie Phillips and Laura Frantz and Sara Ella and Nadine Brandes and see? I have a long list, to say the least.)

Where is your favorite place to read a book?

My bed! Definitely! Though it’s so fun to read outside as well.

What genre of book would best describe your personality? (i.e drama, comedy, adventure, etc.)

Mmmm, great question. Well, I’m pretty sure fantasy would best describe my personality, but with also with a good dash of drama and romance.

What’s your favorite book cover?

Haha, I don’t have an all-time favorite, but I’ve always loved the WFS book covers. (And actually I’m referring to the original covers, though I love the new ones too!)

Have you ever been carsick while reading a book during a drive?

And every time I bring books along regardless.

What’s one fiction book that’d you’d give to a friend with no hesitation?

The Witch of Blackbird Pond! The Green Ember series! The Wingfeather Saga! Veiled in Smoke!

  1. AAAAAH I LOOOOVED READING YOUR ANSWERS TO THE QUESTIONS!!!!!!! I’m not interested in reading Harry Potter either though it’s more due to the size of those books. Let’s say I have a hard time sticking with a book past 300 pages. XD *hides* And I LOVED the type of book character you’d be. I have no idea if that’s a real type of trope, but if it isn’t, WE ARE MAKING IT ONE. XD And t-shirts are the BEST merch swag. It’s like your way of shouting to every random person you pass that this book is AWESOME and you are MISSING OUT if you don’t read it! Though maybe be careful about what it says. I have an Ally Carter t-shirt that says “Sorry Zach, Hale stole my heart,” and if you haven’t read the series and know what it’s talking about, I usually end up with weird looks when I wear it. XD Like you, I get carsick ALL the time, but like you, I still bring books and try to read anyway. XD I can’t help myself!!!! Again, fantastic post, Saraina!!!

    1. AAAAAAH THANK YOU GIRL!!!!!! ❤ 😀 Lol, I've never even seen them IRL so I didn't know they were that long!! XD Aww thank you!!! YES, LET'S MAKE IT ONE. 😀 I know, right? I love wearing the Green Ember t-shirts I have for that very reason! (Now that I think about it, I really need more t-shirts from books I love.) Lol, very true… I can see why people would give you weird looks. 😂 You get carsick too?! Aww!!! *gives you a hug* Hahaha, yes, the urge to read is too irresistible. *sighs* XD Thank you so much for reading, Issabelle!!! ❤

                1. 🤯 ohhhh whoopsie XD Probably (at least partly) why I prefer Zach is cuz I read the second book first *my turn to hide* and then books 3-end… so I got used to him. When I finally got book 1 from the library I didn’t wanna read it cuz it wasn’t Zach 🤣🤣 I think I finally read book 1 on my reread 🙊 and now I don’t really remember their personalities 😂

                  1. Oooo yeah that makes a lot of sense!!! I read the books crazily out of order. I did one first then two then four, five, and six. But there was a LOT of time in between one, two, four and five, six that I had a hard time remembering what had happened. But then when I began a reread I finally made it to three but I never went on to four. XDD I wonder if most GG readers read the series out of order. XD

  2. I get carsick when I look down for too long (phones, probably books – it’s been a while since I tried). I don’t bring books with me cause I can guess what will happen if I do… I hate the feeling of carsickness.

And I’m an introvert too! But not really optimistic… I tend toward the more pessimistic side of things 😢😅

I don’t know if I like what would be classified as heavy books (probably not so much) but I do like sad and emotional stories. My sister wrote a 30 page short story… I was weeping… literally… but I still really like it!! I have a certain liking for stories that make me ache xD However, I’m still not over Jude…

Have you ever read There You’ll Find Me by Jenny B. Jones? I’m not sure if it’s heavy, but it’s deep and emotional and beautiful and I would definitely recommend it if you haven’t read it! And plus – IT’S SET IN IRELAND!!!! 😍

    1. Oh, that’s too bad! Yeah, I hate the feeling of carsickness… *sighs and shakes head*

Yay, fellow introvert!! Haha, I get that! 😅

Aww, you were crying while reading it?!!!! Now I want to read it!! Yeah, sad and emotional stories get me every time. Me too! (I KNOW RIGHT? *sobs for the poor guy*)

Oh my goodness, I HAVE to read that! Haven’t heard of it up till now, but it’s going on my TBR! (*goes to place it on hold from my library*) Thank you for recommending it, Victoria!! ❤ 😀

    1. Thank you!! 😀 Ohhh, SAME!! ❤ It is soooo incredible. Yes, me too!!! They are making it, from I've seen, and I can't wait to watch it! (Lol, I think it's a TV series, but I'm not totally sure either! 😂)

    1. I haven’t yet! (I want to join the Young Writer’s Workshop one day, though!) I have read “Do Hard Things,” though, and that was amazing. 😉 Have you taken any classes from him?

      Like

      1. Oh my goodness! Same. I just love Do Hard Things! I just bought the sequel Start Here recently! My mom said that if I take high school writing classes in the next year, I can look into it the next time they have sign ups. I don’t know how many times a year they have sign ups but I’d really like to be able to sign up by next summer. I know they have them in January but that’s sadly too soon for me.

        1. Whaaaaat, I didn’t know there was a sequel?!! GIRL. I’ve gotta read that! Oh, that would be awesome! Yeah, I’m probably not going to join this year either, but I’d love to sign up next year. Aww, I hope you’re able to!! 😀

            1. Yesss, it would be so fun to comment on each other’s work!! Oh I love that question! 😀 (Name meanings fascinate me. XD) My name is actually a combination of Sarah + Lorraine, and I know Sarah means “princess” (you probably know that *winks*) and Lorraine means “famous army,” according to Google…. so I guess my name doesn’t have one clear meaning. 😉

              1. Hi, yes I did know that! My mom bought me a name card when I was little from a Christian bookstore. I loved it so much that it eventually got bent and ripped in half. I didn’t know about Lorraine though. That’s interesting. 😉 I know so many Sara’s (with or without an H)! It’s so popular. I love the name Sara/Sarah it’s very pretty!

                1. Ooo, that’s fun!! Lol, poor thing. 😀 (Haha, I actually had to look up what Lorraine meant again to remember. *laughs*) 😉 You’re right, it is popular – and for a good reason; it really is so pretty!!! 😀 ❤

    1. It’s my real name, actually!! 😀 For a little while I was considering a pen name, then I was like, you know what, I could never decide on a name. *sighs at my indecisiveness* (Lol! 😂) And don’t worry about forgetting the question mark… totally understandable! 😉
