Sunshine Blogger Award #2 (What’s my current WIP about? + a weird poll)

Hello!!! I’m doing the Sunshine Blogger Award tag again, and this time I’m doing two different sets of equally awesome questions, from Joelle Stone and Sisters Three!

Rules

  • Thank the blogger who nominated you and link back to their blog
  • Answer the questions
  • Nominate eleven bloggers and ask them eleven questions

Word of Thanks!

Thank you so much, Joelle!!! If anyone who’s reading this hasn’t checked it out, I highly recommend you swing by her site Sword of the Penmaiden

And thank you, Kayti, Rissy, and Jaidie!!! Go check out their fantastic blog Sisters Three if you haven’t! 😀

Joelle Stone Questions

If you could visit any world/place, where would it be?

That’s such a hard question. But I’ll go with what I’m thinking at the moment, which is… *thinks* uhhh *thinks more* … actually, I’ll just list a few places that come to mind:

  • Hobbiton 😉 *smirks, because it’s technically a real place*
  • London
  • Gettysburg, Virginia
  • Scotland

How’s that? 🙂

What’s the best dream you’ve ever had?

Oh wow. I have such vivid dreams, but most aren’t that awesome, so… hmm. Probably a dream where I saw a friend or someone I’ve been wanting to see, or a dream where I got amazing new clothes.

I’ve thought about writing my most dramatic dreams… er, nightmares down, but I’ve never been motivated enough to.

What’s your favorite story, and why?

If this question was “favorite book,” I’d answer differently, but it says story. *smirks*  So I’ll answer by saying my favorite story is the story of good overcoming evil. I believe it ultimately stems from the Biblical view of a world remade and Jesus conquering death forever, and when I see this used in stories, I just love it. Because it points to reality, and it gives you hope. 🙂

Do you have a favorite quote(s)?

Uh, YES. Three notebooks full of them, to be exact. I’ll just throw my current favorite at you:

It is what it is, but it is not what it shall be.

(S. D. Smith, The Green Ember)

If you could meet any person, dead or alive, fictional or real, who would it be (your own characters excluded)?

  • Friends I haven’t met IRL *looking at you 😉 *
  • Every single character I’ve ever loved, which would be too many to name right now. ❤
  • Tolkien, C.S. Lewis, Lucy Maud Montgomery, and Longfellow (among others)
  • And others that don’t immediately come to mind right now 😀

What’s your favorite and least favorite part about writing?

Favorite? Getting to create my own characters and stories. That’s something that will never get old. There’s just so much unexplored potential out there, you know? And getting to incorporate themes that matter to me in my stories and characters.

Least favorite? The standards and expectations – good and bad – that I put on myself. Having the finished thing in mind and not measuring up. That’s always annoying. To say the least. 🙂

If you could live as any person for one day, who would it be?

Oh my goodness! That’s so hard. Oh! The main character (or characters plural, please?!!) in the book I’m currently writing (more on it below). It’s set in 1947 London and to have the chance to live as her for a day would be… *laughs* SO helpful. I’d be carrying a journal, taking notes of literally everything, though, so I guess that would sorta spoil fully enjoying the experience. But whatever.

Why are you writing/blogging?

Writing: Because I can’t not write. 🙂 You know what I mean?

Blogging: Two reasons… 1. To encourage fellow writers and share tips I’ve learned to those who may find them helpful. 2. To have an author platform so I can eventually share my stories with those who want them. It would be hard to have anyone know about my books without some sort of presence somewhere on the internet. 😉

Why did you start writing/blogging?

I’ll answer the writing question cause I’ve covered the blogging one, I think. 🙂 I started writing because *thinks* … hmm. Well, I’ve always had a sort of Anne-of-Green-Gables-ish imagination. If you know what I mean. Very vivid, always running. So I guess I began writing stories to remember those imaginations. And then it branched off from there.

What’s your current WIP about?

It’s a historical romantic suspense set in the autumn of 1947, featuring a seamstress with a conflicted passion for piano and an ex-WWII soldier who no one really knows. 🙂 I can’t wait to share more in the future!! (If you’ve joined the newsletter and got the February one, you probably saw the excerpts I shared from it, and if you didn’t, don’t worry because more will be coming!)

If you could have one superpower, what would it be? (Yes, I stole this from Sisters Three. But it’s a great question!!!)

Mind-manipulation (or any tele- superpower like telepathy, etc. etc. etc. 😉 ) But that could turn south really fast, so, I suppooooose I’m glad it’s not a thing. 😀

Sisters Three Questions

Are you strong with the Force? Haha, joke…now to the real questions!

(This was their joking first question but I wanted to answer it… 😜) YES. I’m definitely strong with the Force.

What’s your favorite kind of dog?

Maybe Great Pyrenees because our family has two, but Golden Retrievers sound cute too. 🙂

Have you ever had a name you really, really hated and then read a book where it was the main characters name and at the end of the book you loved the name?

Yes, just on a rather less dramatic scale. Should I say it? I don’t know if I should, but I will because I don’t hate it anymore.

It was Dylan *winces* – and my sister and I even nicknamed a movie character we didn’t like that name, and THEN I read an incredible Green Ember fanfic (shoutout to Abigail B.!!) and the hero’s name was Dylan and I loved him so much that it redeemed the name for me. So now I like it.

Have you ever loved a fandom so much you acted it out?

YES, mainly when I was younger! (Little Women is the book I acted out that comes first to mind.)

Is there something you want soooo bad but can’t have?

Probably… *thinks* Well, I can’t think of anything specific right now, but I’m sure there’s something. How about this; unlimited time, a huge, amazing wardrobe, all the best story ideas ever, every good book on earth, skills and talents I don’t have, etc. 😀

Have you even been talking about a book in the store and were talking about a bad guy you hated who died and said, “I’m so glad he’s dead.” Then realized everyone was looking at you because they had no idea what you were talking about…so you hastily add, in that book?

No lol that would be SO awkward (and hilarious)!!! I will now live in mortal fear of that happening to me.

Does anyone choke on water?

Haha yeah, though more often I spill water while drinking. Alas, those moments when you feel like you need to learn how to drink. It’s a crazy life.

What’s your favorite side character?

Jo from The Green Ember series comes first to mind, even though there are tons of other side characters I LOVE. (Also, randomly, a side character guy named Thommal from my fantasy book came to mind too.)

Do you ever love the side characters more than the main characters?

Yes!! Not always, but sometimes you can’t help loving those side characters more than the main ones!

How many books do you own? Rough estimate…

I would guess around 50, more or less. Probably less.

What’s your favorite board game?

Clue. I think. The whole mystery vibe of it is so enticing.

What’s your favorite droid from Star Wars?

Oof… maybe BB-8? I get confused with their names though, so, yeah. Let’s go with BB-8. 😀

My Eleven Questions for You

(I’m stealing the questions I came up with for round one.)

  1. What would be on your bucket list if you were invisible? 😀
  2. What word do you overuse?
  3. Would you like having a child named after you?
  4. What’s the dumbest way you’ve been physically hurt?
  5. Which word would you use if you could only use one for the rest of your life?
  6. How many times a day do you have to ask people to repeat themselves?
  7. What song is playing in your mind right now?
  8. On a scale of 1 to 10, how much fun do you have actually writing blog posts vs brainstorming ideas for them?
  9. Bubblegum or pistachios? (Randomness alert 😉 )
  10. Which is less risky, in your opinion: choosing truth or a dare?
  11. If you were a color, which color would you be? (Be a specific as you want!)

Nominations

Please do this one on your blog if you want to!!! (And feel free to answer your favorite questions in the comments if you want!)

Wow, that was long but very fun. 😀 So what about you? Do you ever love the side characters more than the main characters? What’s your current WIP about? Are you tired of me using emojis? And most importantly, are you strong with the Force?

  1. Your WIP (wow, I feel fancy) sounds so cool! WWII? Piano? A soldier? I must read this book very, very soon! 🙂

And hahaha, Dylan. That’s hilarious. In my opinion, it’s a fine name, but I knew someone named Dylan, so now it’s forever attached this real person. I hate when I find names but they’re too strongly correlated to a real person for me to ever have a chance at using on a character. 🙂

    1. Oh thank you so much!! 🙂 (Heheh yes!) Aww I hope I’ll finish it soon then! *wink*

YES, it is just awful when you find a name that works for a character, but you just can’t use it because someone you know is named that. (Or a character in another book is named that – that happened to me the other day! I knew if I used the name, I’d forever think of the other character, so I decided not to use it. )

  2. Wow, great answers, Saraina!!! I have so many comments I can’t even think of them all so I’ll just say that YES I’D LOVE TO MEET YOU TOO and heh, that’s the kind of “story” I was thinking of and *GASP* MY SISTERS HATE THE NAME DYLAN and wow thanks so much for doing the tag. 😀 *wipes brow*

    1. Thank you!!! Hahaha YES, it would be awesome to meet you! Your sisters hate the name Dylan too? *jaw drops* How funny!!! You’re welcome, it was a lot of fun!! 😀

  3. I gotta say something here.
    Love the questions!!!
Song playing in my head? Yeah Right (Cimorelli cover) because my brother made me here it over and over. 🙂
And of course pistachios, because I can’t blow a bubble with bubblegum. 😦 I really have tried.

    1. Yay!! 😀 Oh yeah, that can get stuck in your head so easily lol! HAHA I was not expecting that, but it’s true, I can’t blow a bubble with bubblegum either :C (though I’d still choose bubblegum cause I like gum more than pistachios. XD)

      1. Glad you’re with me on the bubblegum problem!
And I just looked and saw that I misspelled “hear”! :C I’m so mortified!! Just kidding. Well, I am mortified, but whatever….
And I felt the same way about Dylan. One reason is because I hate the spelling Dillan. Dylan is profoundly better. 🙂

        1. Hahaha don’t be embarrassed, it happens to the best of us, as they say! 😉

I know, right? I like Dylan a lot more than Dillan.

    1. Finally someone else strong with the Force!! 🤣 Yay, glad you liked the poll (yeah, I don’t necessarily love it, but I like it way more than I did at first because of the character I read about named that)! Eeee so happy to hear that! 😀

  5. Hi Saraina! Totally strong in the Force too *high fives ya*
Ooo, my family and I visited Gettysburg a few years ago; if you ever go, I recommend seeing the Cyclorama. It’s huge! The details are just stunning, and I’d totally see it again.

And that poll was lots of fun. (also, I agree; why is it so hard to drink water? Lol.)
I love the sound of your WIP! I look forward to hearing more about it 🙂

  6. Haha, that was sooooo great!!!! Loved your answers to Joelle’s questions and our questions! (Also, so happy to know your strong with the Force 😉 )
Oh, yes having unlimited time would be incredible! Especially since lately, it has felt like there is just not enough time!!! Oh, you know we weren’t very fond of the name Dylan either (Our brother was bullied by a boy named Dylan, so it soured the name) but then we watched Sage: An American Girl movie and Dylan (a girl in the movie) was cool so we ended up liking it okay, and then Abbi wrote that epic fanfic!!!! *Heart eyes*
Awesome!!! Thanks so much for doing the tag!! And we can’t wait to hear more about Gillory’s book!!!!! It sounds so awesome!!!!! Also, we love your use of emojis!!! Please don’t stop!

    1. Lol thank you so much!!! (Oh yeah 😉 ) It would be incredible!!! Ohh that’s right! Oof, your reason is much more valid than mine was for not liking the name at first cause he BULLIED your brother. 😦 Yess, Abbie’s fanfic is just epic!!! *heart eyes*

Sure thing, it was SUPER fun!!! Aww yay and thank you!! (Okay I won’t stop using those emojis… lol they’re so convenient!)

  7. Hi Saraina! I found your blog from Vanessa’s and have really enjoyed it! These answers were so fun, and I totally related to living as one of our characters for a day. So incredibly useful for research and figuring them out 😂

  8. Wow, I’m so late to this one! I absolutely loved reading your answers! 😀 I have a character named Dylan, so now I like the name, but at first, I wasn’t too keen on it either haha. Your questions look very fun…I might have to steal this one haha. 🙂
