“He who made the Pleiades and Orion,
and turns deep darkness into the morning
and darkens the day into night,
who calls for the waters of the sea
and pours them out on the surface of the earth,
the Lord is his name…”
Amos 5:8, ESV

About The Black Rose Collection

Receiving a black rose is a death sentence.
In these seven lands, receiving a black rose is a death sentence. When these perilous flowers endanger their lives, a spy must decide between freeing slaves or completing his mission, a huntress finds herself becoming the hunted, and two sets of mortal enemies are forced to work together—if they don’t first kill each other in the process.
When a couple’s daughter is born with a deadly birthmark, can they escape in time? Or will they lose their daughter to evil? False accusations and threats force an innocent man to flee and fight for his life—but his path to freedom is threatened by memory loss. And when two friends become unexpected enemies, can loyalty overcome duty?
In this collection of seven Christian fantasy romance novellas, characters will learn the value of faith and trust as danger grows and justice is threatened.
From authors Madisyn Carlin, Kristina Hall, Vanessa Hall, K.R. Mattson, M.L. Milligan, Kaytlin Phillips, and Saraina Whitney comes The Black Rose Collection, a New Adult Christian fantasy anthology.
about A Valley of Stars

To tell you the truth, I have never been more stressed by a writing project…and I have also had more fun than is legal. My novella A Valley of Stars features my first hate-to-love romance, where the hero and heroine start out as SERIOUS ENEMIES. I went all in on the dramatic, moody fantasy vibes, complete with shadows and castles and forests and ravens.
It was so fun.
I also cried over this. Because that’s what I do when I’ve ignored stress and it suddenly crashes down and I HAVE to confront it.
I want to do a whole other post about that, but for now, I’ll just say that God deserves the credit for anything good in my story. From sickness to burnout to other commitments stealing my time and energy…I’m shocked I even finished my novella. There were many days when I had nothing. When I couldn’t write more than five words, even while the deadline raced toward me like a train.
Part of me wonders if I should be embarrassed about that. It’s just a novella, around 25k words.
It shouldn’t have been hard. It shouldn’t have been stressful.
But in spite of all that—no, through all of that, God was faithful.
He determines the number of the stars;
he gives to all of them their names.
Great is our Lord, and abundant in power;
his understanding is beyond measure.
Psalm 147:4-5, ESV
the blurb
All Princess Ravenna de Vivon wants is to be the innocent child she once was. But when her father is assassinated, she can no longer run from the reality of the darkness that has swallowed up her kingdom…and nowhere is safe.
Forced to take the throne until her brother is of age, Ravenna is crippled by the sudden responsibility of overseeing her kingdom. She numbs herself to the pain of her father’s loss, letting ice freeze her heart.
When a cocky and reckless warrior—from a foreign country, no less—barges into her life with the news that her father was the head of a trafficking ring, her world shatters around her.
Outraged by the betrayal—and vowing to trust no one ever again—Ravenna determines to dismantle the secret crime organization…even if that means working with the very man who led the assassination.
Kennard Engall’s blind drive for ‘justice’ infuriates her, but cracks through his self-confident bluster show a heart as wounded as hers. Can Ravenna work past her scars and fear to bring light to her kingdom, or will the darkness forever overtake her?

Oooh yay congrats on the release!! 🎉🎉🤩
Your story sounds sooo cool! I love enemies to lovers tropes! And black roses XD The sneak peek that most caught my interest was the first one! I love the unspoken meaning there 😁
My favorite trope in fantasy is probably the hidden nobility one, where someone is hiding their Royal/noble identity, especially when they’re forced to do it. In romance, I always enjoy a good enemies to lovers as well as marriages of convenience/medieval arranged marriages that turn out really good.

Ooh, hidden nobility is such a cool fantasy trope! And same, I love a good marriage of convenience/medieval arranged marriage! I'll need to write one of those someday… XD
