He held out his hand. His broad, scarred hand. It had probably barbarously killed hundreds of innocent people. She wouldn’t touch it with a ten-foot branch.
“Captain Kennard Engall of Eiren, Your Highness,” he said, in a lilting Eireni accent.
Ravenna stared pointedly at his open hand, then at his hazel eyes, careful not to tilt her chin up to accommodate his height. That would make her look beneath him. Vulnerable. Naive.
Trusting.
“Pleasure ta be meetin’ you, princess,” he added in a pleasant enough voice. But the flecks of gold and brown in his eyes told another story, taking stock of every nuance of her expression.

That’s a rough excerpt from the fantasy novella I’ve been working on for several months now! *beams* I’ve teased it a bit here and there, and the time has finally come to share more about it!!!!!!
To be honest, I was in love with the idea of this project before I even began writing it. It’s a moody fantasy tale of two enemies forced to work together, complete with political intrigue, romance, and betrayal. (Yes, prepare to have your heart crushed. But there’s hope and some humor, too. 😜) It’s unashamedly dramatic, which I love, because having been knee-deep in a historical fiction for the past few years, it’s so freeing to write the kind of fantasy where I can indulge my penchant for drama to my imagination’s content. XD
And if you haven’t figured it out already, my story happens to be part of The Black Rose Collection, an anthology of seven fantasy romance novellas full of faith…and danger. 🥀
(Okay, I really want to end that sentence with a hundred exclamation marks, but it’s just more dramatic to end it with a period, so there ya have it.)
About the Book
Receiving a black rose is a death sentence.
In these seven lands, receiving a black rose is a death sentence. When these perilous flowers endanger their lives, a woman must help save the sister of the man who betrayed her. A huntress finds herself becoming the hunted, and two sets of mortal enemies are forced to work together—if they don’t first kill each other in the process
When a couple’s daughter is born with a deadly birthmark, can they escape in time? Or will they lose their daughter to evil? False accusations and threats force an innocent man to flee and fight for his life—but his path to freedom is threatened by memory loss. And when two friends become unexpected enemies, can loyalty overcome duty?
In this collection of seven Christian fantasy romance novellas, characters will learn the value of faith and trust as danger grows and justice is threatened.
Blurb is subject to change.
Some of your favorite authors are featured – including Madisyn Carlin, Kristina Hall, Vanessa Hall, K.R. Mattson, M.L. Milligan, and Kaytlin Phillips! 🥰

The Black Rose Collection releases in February, so you have a few months before the madness hits us. 😉
Springtime in Eiren was magic.
It was soft blossoms and sweet wind. It was thawing brooks and the call of wren and thrush. It was air tangy with sea salt and cliffs so green they blinded a man. It was fierce rain showers but rainbows afterward.
It was home.
Here in the capital of Nocveran, it would seem that springtime meant mud lining cobblestoned streets and gray clouds over silent towns. It was, to put it bluntly, downright miserable.

Regan scowled and crammed the last crumb into his mouth. He spoke around it. “He wanted to give me dance lessons. I told him there’s a lot more to being king than knowing which forks to eat with and how to turn around on a ballroom floor.“

I’ll be sharing more about my novella in the near future, so stay tuned for that and the cover reveal! Which premise mentioned in the blurb are you most excited for? (And which do you suspect describes my story? 👀) Do you enjoy novella anthologies? Are you excited to see the cover for The Black Rose Collection?

But it was Ravenna de Vivon who looked about ready to kill him.

Ee, I’m so excited!! My guess is that the part “two sets of mortal enemies are forced to work together—if they don’t first kill each other in the process” refers to your story.
