Since most of us writers are in the middle of our writing challenges for this month, I decided an antidote against Writer’s Block would be helpful, so I’m reblogging my post on that! If you’re getting stuck in your WIP and all you can do is lifelessly stare at the blinking cursor on your screen and mourn the expanse of blank page below, well, you might find just the tip you need to get out of that slump so you can restart that race (or steady amble 😉 ) to the finish line. I added 6 new bonus tricks, so there should be plenty enough of options for you! Do enjoy! (That last part is supposed to be said in a British accent. 😜)

They say Writer’s Block isn’t even a real thing (and I agree in a way), but you know what, when you’re stuck in the middle of a story, struggling to lose yourself in a writing flow, it feels pretty real, doesn’t it?
So I hope this list will help you find what works for you to break Writer’s Block (and maybe bookmark this for when you need it in the future… or present, lol). Please share your own favorite tips in the comments! With that said, let’s get to it! Make sure you stick around till the end, cause let’s just say I saved the best for last. 😉
If you have Writer’s Block…
- Use a random word generator. Pick 3 or more random words and dare yourself to work them into what you write for the day. You’ll be amazed at the ideas it gives you! Plus, you…

Thank you!!! I’ve been stuck on one particular scene for… months, and will definitely be coming back to this list when I have time to write again. My favorite tip is to write fanfiction with your own characters. It’s so fun!

Thanks for re-posting this! -It’s cool to see the ones you’ve added (the fanfic one looks intriguing…)
There are actually three of these I use on a regular basis:
1. Time -I like to give myself 20-45 minutes (depending on the day) to write whatever I can write. Once I’ve been writing for a while, and motivates me to write more!
2. Music -I really like sad/dark songs, they help me connect with emotions. (Usually my characters are you through tough times…
Which brings me to my 3rd trick -Relating- I’ve been going through a lot of crazy things recently, and I find it helps to give the characters something that I can relate to. -If these are general or vague things (death, distance, jealousy, etc.) a lot of people can relate and they enjoy the writing more.
Who doesn’t like to relate?
Hope you’re doing well, and Happy Holidays!

Absolutely!!! 😀 Yes! (It was too fun to leave out, lol… 😛 ) Ohh, those are great ones!! Exactly, once I’ve been writing for a while, that motivates me to write even more! (…until time flies by and it’s far later than I’d imagined. XD)
Haha, same, those sad songs work wonders in helping me connect to the characters’ emotions. (Those poor characters. 😭 I’d hate to be them. LOL.)
Wow, that 3rd trick is really good. It’s so true, if you include something you’re going through yourself, the writing will feel even more genuine and relatable, plus it’ll be easier to write since you have plenty of material to go off of emotionally! Thank you SO much for sharing that, Mary Ann!! ❤ I hope you're doing well today too! Happy Holidays!

It looks like you’re getting there in your KDWC goal! I’m cheering you on! I have about 2,500 words left (which is a lot) but my new WIP is really coming along so that helps. 😉😁 I’m hoping to finish the goal by Monday so I can help my tent the last few days of the month! It’s going by too fast! I’ll be sad when camp is over! It’s so much fun!

Yes!! Aww, thank you!!! Wow, you are SO CLOSE! (Lol I bet that helps! 😁 That’s so wonderful!) You’re doing amazing!!! (Which tent are you in?) Ughh, it really is going by way too fast. 😭 Me too, it’s been so much fun!!! 😀

Yes! Did you see there’s a slack group started by some of the KDWC ladies for sharing, commenting and talking about writing and other things that will go all-year-round? I joined it! There’s a link in the Bulletin board. They will do monthly goals too! I’m in Brookside books! How about you?

Oh, I didn’t know that! I’m definitely going to join it, then!! Ahh, that’s fun! I’m in Green Gables Garrett 😉

Just curious but what is your goal. I noticed it’s a small number (40 I think you said) so it’s probably not word count. Lol. I always forget that not everyone does or enjoys word count because it’s the only goal I like having! Everything else feels too slow or not conquerable (I doubt that’s a word but oh well, lol) if that makes sense. 😉

My goal is 30 pages, and I met it! So now I’m aiming to hit 50 pages overall. 😀 Absolutely, that makes sense! Last year I did the 50k word count and I got to 47k, so this year I wanted to try something different. But I’ll probably aim for the 50k again another year. 😛

Oh! You were so close! I was trying for that but was about it took 20ish days just to get 5,000 words so I went for 15k instead. I need to train myself to get there. I’ll probably push myself with monthly goals and start adding 5k more words per month until I can hit 50k. Maybe next year I’ll be able to do it! It should only take me 7 months but realistically (knowing me) it’ll probably take a year. 🤭

Yeah, I get that! 😀 And it’s okay if it takes a while – some writers write faster, others slower, and there’s nothing wrong with that! 😉 But hopefully you’ll find some strategies to help you with it!! You can do it!

It took 10ish I meant to say! Ugh! When your finger hits the wrong key, it can be annoying! Lol. 🙄🙃😅
