The last day of the blog tour for Untold by Vanessa Hall has arrived, and yours truly is contributing to the celebration with a character questionnaire with the one and only Molly Baird!!! (The heroine of Untold!) This is one of my favorite character questionnaires I’ve ever done – not that I’ve done a million, but still. 😀 Maybe it’s because I relate with her so much, her being such a hardcore introvert, and a pianist… *clicks tongue* but I’m getting ahead of myself. 😉 I’ll let you meet her below!!! Enjoy the interview and the Untold graphics sprinkled throughout! 😀
Hello, Molly!!! To begin with, how would you describe yourself?
Hello, Saraina, and thank you so much for having me on your beautiful blog. To describe myself … first of all, I’m a Christian who fails very often but has a very faithful Savior. I’m also a musician, and I teach piano privately.
What are some of the biggest differences between you and Nick? (Besides him being a trumpet player and you a pianist. 😜)
*laughs* Yes, well, there is that difference. But beyond our choices of instruments, one of the big differences between us is our ability at handling crowds and social surroundings. I am not a fan of big crowds, but Nick can be comfortable and blend into any situation. So I love hiding behind him at social events. 🙂
Beyond that, Nick’s sense of humor is quite different from mine. He’s can be pretty sarcastic and dry, which I think is absolutely adorable. 🙂
Now, if you and the author are willing to share, of course… what’s your worst memory?
Oh dear. I don’t think I can go into detail, but some of my worst memories happened during the time Untold covers. I’ve never been so scared in my life, and the threat of losing those I love is worse than anything I’ve ever experienced.
If you lived your life by a motto, what would it be?
There are lots of good mottos out there, but the one that I must keep reminding myself of comes straight from the Bible: “Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith.” (Hebrews 12:2). So often, I forget to look at Him, and then I’m like Peter when he was walking on water and looked away from Jesus. But when I look to Him, all is at rest, even if storms are around me.

Imagine you could meet any composer from the past or present. Who would it be, and why?
Oh, Saraina, you ask the best of questions. I would love to meet so many composers: Rachmaninoff, Liszt, Shostakovich, Tchaikovsky, Beethoven … the list goes on and on. But if I had to meet one, I’d choose to meet Johann Sebastian Bach. He was such a musical genius, and I’d like to ask him how his faith affected his music. Also, I’d beg him to improvise a fugue on the spot. Wouldn’t that just be insane?
What piano piece calms you down the most?
Another wonderful question. Saraina, you and I must get together sometime and just play music together. 🙂 There are so many beautiful, soothing piano pieces out there. One of my favorites is Un Sospiro by Liszt. It’s quite difficult, but once it’s under your fingers, you just can’t stop playing. It has the most beautiful arpeggiated sections and the most lovely harmonic progressions, and it ranges from this flowy melody all the way to a more stormy, strong outburst. Ahh, it’s just gorgeous. I wish I could play it for you, but here’s a recording just so you can enjoy it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L42sbnQxEmw. Another favorite is Robert Schumann’s Träumeri, which is much easier and so sweet and dreamy.
But beyond these classical piano pieces, I truly enjoy playing hymns. Yes, they’re not as difficult or complex as these pieces, but the truth that stands in the words within the notes is the most important and peace-giving thing in this world.

In Untold, you go through, well, *coughs and winces* a lot. 😬 Did you discover any hidden talents you have at fighting or evading bad guys?
*laughs nervously* Yes, well, that was a terrifying time, and I’m not sure if I discovered any talents. I’d like to think I got a little bit better at reacting to dangerous situations, but in the moment, it’s very hard to think clearly. And I know Nick showed me how to pick handcuffs, but I really don’t think I could do that again – by myself, at least!
So, what’s your opinion on our boy Gregor? Is he more funny or annoying to you? 😉
Oh, Gregor. He’s such an interesting person, isn’t he? But he’s really quite kind – .
*author steps in* Molly, be honest.
Um, well, I mean, he can be kind. Sometimes he isn’t, and to tell the truth … *clears throat* I guess he can be a little annoying. Especially some of his comments. *Molly blushes* And some of his comments to Nick are just plain rude. But I think I just need to accept that his personality is extremely sarcastic, and the things he says to Nick aren’t mean-spirited.
The majority of the time, at least.
What do you MOST love about Tennessee, your home state?
Oh, there’s so much to love. But I especially love the mountains and the outdoors in general. It’s very peaceful and calming. And when the leaves change in the fall, the mornings are crisp and the days still warm … it’s just beautiful.
Personality-wise, what do you consider your greatest strength and greatest weakness?
Oh, I wish I were the brave, talkative, warm person who wasn’t scared of any social setting but I never will be. And I’ve learned that is okay, but you have to learn to speak up sometimes. So I think one of my greatest weaknesses is being fearful and not speaking when I should.
And my greatest strengths … oh, I don’t know. Nick always tells me I have a meek spirit, but I think he’s just too nice.
*author clears her throat* Molly, you do have good personality traits. Tell the truth.
*Saraina feels compelled to step in* MOLLYYYY! You are such a sweet person, girl! You have good traits!!!!
*Molly squirms* I just don’t like acting as if I’m some wonderful person. I have lots of problems.
*author sighs* I’ve known other characters with more problems than you have.
Is there one thing that embarrasses you the most?
Probably saying something stupid in front of lots of people. Talking in general can be stressful , but saying something incorrect or silly is mortifying.
What’s your least favorite color? Why?
Probably neon green. It’s so brash and too in-your-face.
Last but far from least… what do you love most about Nick?
*Molly blushes again* I don’t know if I could pin down one thing that I love him most for, but the way he protects and honors and respects me is up there. From the first time I met him, he was always respectful and kind, and throughout all the nightmarish events of Untold, he cared for me so well. I’ll never forget everything he did for me. But it’s not just the dramatic moments of being willing to lay down his life for me – it’s being there for me and listening to me and letting me play piano for him. He’s just so kind and loving, and in spite of everything he’s gone through. I can hardly even talk about everything he’s suffered, but through it all, he has such a warrior’s heart. He never stops fighting, never stops struggling to cling to the Lord and His truth. Nick is just one of the most godly men I know, and I love him so much.
Thank you to the wonderful and talented author for letting us into the depths of Molly’s mind!! 😉 😀
Of course! Thank you, Saraina, for asking Molly such good questions! You really got her going with the music ones. And the ones about Nick. (Wow, I guess that romantic in her really came out with that last one.) You were the perfect interviewer for her. Thank you so much!
*utterly melts* Ahhh those answers were just epic!!! I SO enjoyed doing this!!!! Thank you so much, Vanessa!!

Untold Blurb
You can only run for so long …
Two years hasn’t erased the sting of betrayal and the shadow of the past, but Nikolai Alexandrov has finally found a way to live. Moscow, Russia, is the last place anyone would look for a rogue ex-CIA officer, and the members of Grace Baptist Church see beyond his past to the man he is now.
Molly Baird never wanted to be a missionary, but due to her father’s wishes, she lands in Moscow to aid her missionary cousin, Gabe Kelly. All is foreign in the massive city, though, rendering her unable to serve. Only the few English speakers in Grace Baptist’s congregation hold a trace of familiarity—including Nikolai, whose kindness she can’t deny.
Yet when a sniper’s bullet strikes far too close, Nikolai and Molly are thrown together in a desperate race against untold threats. When time runs out, will Nikolai and Molly be able to trust God with the past—and with the future?

Blurb:
He knew there was a cost. He just didn’t know how great it’d be.
Gabriel Kelly returned to Russia for one reason—to bury his parents. After ten years in the United States, he hadn’t expected to return to his childhood home in the face of tragedy. However, after short days in Moscow, he begins to consider if the same call that cost his parents’ lives is now upon him.
Sofia Rykova’s dreams finally came true when she became a principal soloist with the Bolshoi Ballet. One night, though, an old crush walks back into her life, making her wonder if there is more to life than ballet. Gabe Kelly is just as she remembered, just as she longed for—yet religion stands between them.
Unknown to Gabe and Sofia, danger lurks closer than either would have guessed. The deaths of Gabe’s parents grow more suspicious by the day, and Gabe and Sofia are drawn into the midst of a plot neither can escape. Will obedience to God’s call—in spite of their fears and desires—result in a price too steep to bear?

Also, THE CONVERSATION YOU THREE HAD ABOUT HER. 😂😂 Ig we all have problems … BUT SHE’S STILL SUPER SWEET AND AMAZING. 🤣🤣🤣 Molly, you need to take compliments. 😂🤣
And YES, Tennessee’s mountains are GORGEOUS!!! Especially right in the morning with the sunrise … 😍😍😍 *nostalgic for church camp 😂*
Lovely interview, Saraina! (And you and Molly should TOTALLY play together sometime. 😁)

Yes, of course I’m guilty of that. XD One of my honorary little sisters says I’m timid. XDXDXD It’s like, “Thaaaanks. I appreciate the … need to point out something I never attributed to myself??” LOL! YES, WE LOVE NICK. (Even if he was eating sardines straight from the tin they came in. My dude, I have problems with that. I have problems with that.)
SHE IS!! AND SHE MUST ACCEPT THAT!!!
IT IS!!! (Although I did see a sunset yesterday that might equal Tennessee’s sunrises … *heart eyes due to lack of emojis on laptop*)
You are welcome, m’dear! *gives a sweeping bow to the … ground? XD* (I mean, it currently is a dream, ya know. You can’t physically do it with Molly. Although since we’re writers, we can always hope for it to happen. XD)

YES THIS INTERVIEW WAS AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I feel like I got to learn even more about sweet, precious Molly. But listen, Molly, trust me, like Vanessa said, I know tons of characters with WAY more problems than you, (most of them being my own… *coughs*) so you’re really an awesome girl. <33 I used to not listen to a lot of a classical music (I'm a Skillet Panhead, need I say more? XD) but since I've been taking this music appreciation class for college, now I just LOOOVE listening to classical music!!!! (How does school do this??? What types of mind-controlling mechanisms are they using on us? XDD) My favorite book in the series???? THIS IS SO HARD. Either Unknown or Untold. I LOVE Nikolai but Unknow just gives me sentimental feels since it was the first I read. What about you?

AHHHHHH SO GLAD YOU LIKE IT!!!!!! I know, right? SAME! (*laughs* Your poor charries! <333) Ohhh, really?! That's soooo wonderful!!!! (😂 It's creepy.) Augh, yes, girl!!!! It gives me sentimental feels too. *happy sigh* Oh goodness, I don't know if I could choose because they're each so incredible… *thinks* I guess Unworthy is my favorite, but partially because Evgeny is one of the main characters in it. 😂 😉 ) Each book gets better and better, though!!! 😀
Thank you for reading, Issabelle!!! ❤
