I’m back with two epic interviews with characters from Unfortunate Events, a YA Christian fantasy novel by authors Kaytlin, Marisa, & Jaiden Phillips! Buckle up for the ride and get ready for a laugh or two in the second interview! 😉
Interview with Kahtan!
How would you describe yourself?
I’m always in the way, nothing I do turns out right. I mess everything up. The only thing I can do without messing it up is organizing steel in the forge, I can’t even protect myself. *sighs* (Authors dropping in to say, it’s not like that all…this boy has some low self esteem.)
What is your family like?
Tall, strong, supportive. I always feel safe around Father. Gilkin, my oldest brother, is very quiet but you know you can count on him. Firick likes to nag and tell me what I should have done, he’s an overly protective brother. And Tinan is like, fun, happy…always knows how to get everyone to smile.
What are three things you love to do that always make you happy?
Being around my family…but that’s about the only thing I can think of. I mess everything else up. I even mess things up with the boys on my team by saying all the wrong things. *runs a hand through his hair*
When was a time in your life when you felt most helpless?
Everyday! Being beat by Dieter and his gang, being dragged from home, caught in…well, I’m not supposed to mention that. But honestly, I am helpless! A hopeless cause as much as I wish I could do something worthwhile…it’s impossible! (Pardon him, Kahtan is rather dramatic. *glares at said character*)
Describe the setting that most feels like home to you!
The cozy stone home connected to the forge, watching father as he pounds the steel the ringing filling the air and surrounding me. Gilkin tending the bellows, Tinan at the sharpening wheel, Firick with customers and me silently in the background watching them…knowing that with them I was safe. (*gives Kahtan a pat on the shoulder.* “It’s okay buddy.”)
(*Saraina gives Kahtan a pat on the shoulder too*)
Out of Wixley, Gaven, and Sage, who are you most different from and most similar to?
Ahhh, all of them!? Sage is happy and carefree, Wixley is angry and brooding, and Gaven is mysterious and sarcastic….and I’m, quiet and unsure of myself. Like where do I fit in this world? What is my purpose?
Most similar too…maybe Gaven…but he’s so mysterious it’s hard to tell.
What would you tell the world if everyone stopped to listen to you?
I wouldn’t want to tell them anything I would want to ask them. Why am I here? What is my purpose? What is this stupid war for? Why does everyone have so many blooming secrets!? Son of a dragon, I just want some answers! *pulls at hair and marches off* (Sorry, told you he was dramatic…excuse us while we get him under control.)
Interview with Sage!
What’s your biggest weakness and biggest strength?
Hmm, well I’m nae weak if thon’s whit ye mean. I danae think I have a biggest weakness? Whit does thon even mean? Me strength is obviously …*scowls as he thinks* Whelp, I’m really braw at keepin’ secrets and I’m rather fast. *shrugs* Never gived it muckle thought.
Is there a word or phrase you use a lot?
I’m fond of daft limmer, but like tae mix it up and keep people guessin’. Ye ken whit me means?
What embarrasses you the most?
I danae really care a bit aboot whit people think. They can keep their own bloomin’ opinions and (Sage, keep it nice. *glares at him*) and, *scowls at authors* well, keep it tae themselves. *crosses arms, then grins*
*Saraina helplessly grins too*
What do you think of Kahtan? Is he easy to be friends with?
He’s alright, nice I guess…Why ye askin’? He’s bit on the nosey side and very quiet. He doesnae seem to get me jokes…*shrugs and grins* But he’s a nice enough lad.
Tell us a little about your friendship with Gaven!
Oi, those are very toughy waters there. Me and Gavie’s been friends for years…and thon’s aboot all I’m allowed tae say on the matter. It’s more like a brotherhood than anythin’, we’ve got each other’s backs, ye ken? He kens my secrets and I ken his. *winks*
What’s one of your biggest fears?
*glances around and whispers* Ye cannae tell anywan this, but *glances around again* it’s losin’ Gavie. Me doesnae ken whit I’d dae withoot him. He’s all I’s got.
If you could have a superpower, what would you choose?
Oi, superpower…Um, there’s a nice thought. I’m not really sure. I’d probably pass thon honor on tae Gavie, I’ve not really got anythin’ I want…at least nothin’ a superpower would help with. *grins*
Thank you to the lovely and talented authors for giving us a peek into these character’s brains!!! 😀
Awww, thank you so much for having us!!! It was so much fun!!! Sorry we couldn’t wrangle the boys better *glares at said boys*.

Lies are worn as masks, darkness threatens, and fear spreads like fire.
Mazleah has lost its Crowned Prince and the kingdom stands on the edge of ruin. When Kahtan Faber is forced into the King’s army life as he knew it collapses. Thrust onto a team with a brogue-speaking street boy, a secretive lordling, and his hometown bully, Kahtan quickly learns what it means to be alone. As a Blacksmith’s son who has never wielded a blade, he’s nothing more than a failure to those around him.
But when secrets about his teammates are revealed, secrets that could shake Mazleah to its core, Kahtan must decide whether to stand with his team or with his country. Although nothing in Mazleah is ever that simple.

What was your favorite part of the interview? Did you laugh at any of Sage’s answers? (I know I sure did!) Will anyone volunteer to give Kahtan a hug? What do you think about Sage’s accent? (I don’t know about you, but I LOVE how I can just hear his voice in my head! For some characters with accents, it’s too thick to even discern what they’re saying, but Sage has the perfect amount, in my humble opinion!) Alright, go celebrate Unfortunate Events in the comments!

Ah, I loved these interviews! Poor Kahtan needs a hug – I shall hug him! And Sage … I just love that dude. So much fun. Great interview!
